Product information

This SOPHIOR cutting board set consists of two maple wood cutting boards: a medium size of 35 × 25 × 2.5 cm and a large size of 42 × 30 × 2.5 cm. Both boards are made from North American maple wood (Acer Saccharum), a strong and durable type of wood with a Janka hardness of 1450. This means you choose sturdy boards that will stay beautiful for a long time and are also kind to your knives. Ideal for anyone who likes to work efficiently and organized in the kitchen.

For large and small cutting tasks

With two different sizes, you always have the right board at hand. You can use the large board as a spacious work surface for extensive preparations, such as cutting vegetables, meat, or a complete mise-en-place. The medium board is perfect for smaller tasks, such as finely chopping an onion, halving an avocado, or cutting bread. This way, you keep your large board free for the main task and work much more practically.

Maple as a favorite

Maple has long been considered one of the best wood types for cutting boards. This is due to its dense, closed grain, which means the wood hardly absorbs odors from ingredients such as garlic or fish. Maple is also popular for its light, fresh appearance. The subtle grain and soft cream color fit into almost any kitchen and, with proper maintenance, remain beautiful for a long time. This makes maple a versatile choice for daily use.

Double-sided use

Both boards can be used on two sides. The side with a juice groove is ideal for juicy ingredients, as moisture is neatly collected. The flat side is handy for precision work, bread, or herbs. This way, you get maximum usability from each board and have a suitable cutting surface for every preparation.

Durably finished

The wood is 100% FSC-certified and comes from responsibly managed North American forests. Both boards are finished with mineral oil, making them food-safe and ready for immediate use. By re-oiling them every four to six weeks, letting the oil soak in overnight, and wiping off excess oil with a dry cloth, the boards will remain stable, scratch-resistant, and beautiful in color.

Frequently asked questions

  • Can these boards go in the dishwasher?

No. Hot steam and long soaking periods are fatal for wood: these boards can warp or crack. Rinse with warm water and a drop of dish soap, dry and let dry upright. Ready in a minute.

  • What kind of wood is it and why?

Maple, solid and 100% FSC-certified, Janka hardness 1450 lbf. Maple is the classic chopping block wood: light, hard and with a dense, closed grain. Barely absorbs odors from onion, garlic or fish.

  • Is long grain good for my knives?

Yes. Wood is forgiving where glass, stone, and hard plastic will mercilessly dull your cutting edge. Long-grain wood shows slightly more cut marks over time than end-grain, but is lighter, easier to handle, and requires less maintenance.

  • How often should I oil these boards?

Every four to six weeks, or as soon as the wood looks dry or dull. Apply a generous coat of mineral oil, leave it to soak in overnight and buff away the excess. Want to give it an extra layer of protection: a thin coat of beeswax will make the surface water-repellent.

  • Can I use these boards immediately?

Yes. These boards are finished with mineral oil and beeswax and made with formaldehyde-free glue. Out of the box, onto the counter, start cutting.

  • Is a wooden cutting board hygienic, even for raw meat?

Yes, provided you clean it after use and let it dry thoroughly. A bonus: wood does not release microplastics, unlike a scratched plastic cutting board. Do you often cut raw meat and vegetables together? Use a separate side or a second cutting board.

  • What is the sapgeul used for?

The groove along the edge catches meat juices, tomato juice and lemon juice. This keeps your counter dry when you slice into that ribeye. The other side is flat: ideal for serving.

  • Can I use both sides?

Yes, these boards are double-sided. Turn them regularly so that the wood wears evenly and the board remains flat.

  • How can I prevent my cutting board from warping or cracking?

Three rules: never let it soak, let it dry upright so both sides get air, and oil it in time. Do not place it near the heater or in direct sunlight. Wood that is not thirsty does not warp.

  • Can I also serve it on it?

Absolutely. Cheese, charcuterie, freshly baked bread: these boards look just as good on the table as they do on the kitchen counter. The handles on the side make them easy to carry.

  • Which sizes are included in the set?

Two boards: a medium one measuring 35×25 cm and a large one measuring 42×30 cm, both with handles. The large one is your main cutting board, while you grab the small one for an onion or a lemon now and then. Convenient: raw meat and vegetables stay separate.

  • How much warranty do I get?

2 years on material and manufacturing defects.
