Product information

The SOPHIOR 42 × 30 cm maple cutting board is made from North American maple wood (Acer Saccharum). With a Janka hardness of 1450, it is one of the hardest types of wood in the SOPHIOR range. This means it is strong enough to remain beautiful for a long time, but still gentle enough on your knives' blades. From cutting an onion to preparing vegetables or chicken breast: this board is made for intensive daily use.

Dense wood structure

Maple is known for its fine, closed grain. This means the wood absorbs odors from ingredients like garlic, onion, or fish less quickly. This is practical, as flavors and odors are less likely to linger on the board. The light, even color of maple is also a plus. The fresh, creamy white hue with subtle wood grain creates a calm appearance and contrasts beautifully in kitchens with dark accents.

Popular with chefs

Maple wood has been widely used in professional kitchens for many years. This is due to the strong combination of hardness, durability, and a closed wood structure. Its dense grain makes the wood, with proper maintenance, very suitable for daily use. By regularly oiling the board and drying it thoroughly after use, it remains hygienic, sturdy, and pleasant to work on.

Double-sided convenience

The board can be used on both sides. The side with a juice groove is ideal for juicy ingredients like tomatoes or chicken breast, as moisture is neatly collected. The flat side is handy for bread, herbs, or other ingredients where you want to utilize as much work surface as possible. This way, you always have the right side for the job.

Responsibly finished

The maple wood is 100% FSC certified and sourced from responsibly managed North American forests. The board is finished with mineral oil, making it food-safe and ready for immediate use. This way, you bring home a sustainable, practical, and stylish cutting board that you can rely on every day.

Frequently asked questions

  • Can this board go in the dishwasher?

No. Hot steam and long soaking are fatal for wood: this board can warp or crack. Rinse with warm water and a drop of dish soap, dry it, and let it dry upright. Done in a minute.

  • What kind of wood is it and why?

Maple, solid and 100% FSC-certified, Janka hardness 1450 lbf. Maple is the classic chopping block wood: light, hard and with a dense, closed grain. Barely absorbs odors from onion, garlic or fish.

  • Is long grain good for my knives?

Yes. Wood is forgiving where glass, stone, and hard plastic will mercilessly dull your cutting edge. Plain-sawn wood shows slightly more cut marks over time than quarter-sawn wood, but is lighter, easier to handle, and requires less maintenance.

  • How often should I oil this board?

Every four to six weeks, or as soon as the wood looks dry or dull. Apply a generous coat of mineral oil, leave it to soak in overnight and buff away the excess. Want to give it an extra layer of protection: a thin coat of beeswax will make the surface water-repellent.

  • Can I use this shelf immediately?

Yes. This board is finished with mineral oil and beeswax and made with formaldehyde-free glue. Out of the box, onto the counter, and start cutting.

  • Is a wooden cutting board hygienic, even for raw meat?

Yes, provided you clean it after use and let it dry thoroughly. A bonus: wood does not release microplastics, unlike a scratched plastic cutting board. Do you often cut raw meat and vegetables together? Use a separate side or a second cutting board.

  • What is the sapgeul used for?

The groove along the edge catches meat juices, tomato juice and lemon juice. This keeps your counter dry when you carve the rib-eye. The other side is flat: ideal for serving.

  • Can I use both sides?

Yes, this board is double-sided. Turn it regularly so that the wood wears evenly and the board remains flat.

  • How can I prevent my cutting board from warping or cracking?

Three rules: never let it soak, let it dry upright so both sides get air, and oil it in time. Do not place it near the heater or in direct sunlight. Wood that is not thirsty does not warp.

  • Can I also serve it on it?

Absolutely. Cheese, charcuterie, freshly baked bread: this board looks just as good on the table as on the kitchen counter. The handles on the side make it easy to carry.

  • How much warranty do I get?

2 years for defects in materials and workmanship.
