Product information

The SOPHIOR cherry wood cutting board, measuring 35 × 25 cm, is made from North American cherry wood (Prunus Serotina). This type of wood is known for its warm appearance and unique characteristic: its color only improves with time. While the board initially has a light reddish-brown hue, daily use develops a deeper and richer patina. This gives each board its own unique character.

Kind to your knives
Cherry wood is slightly softer than, for example, maple, and you'll notice this while cutting. The wood gives slightly, meaning your knives' edges will dull less quickly. Whether you're slicing an onion, chopping herbs, or dicing chicken breast: this board cuts smoothly and is comfortable to use daily.

Also beautiful as a serving board
This board is not only practical during cooking but also looks beautiful on the table. Thanks to its warm color and fine wood grain, you can just as easily use it as a serving board. Think of fresh bread with dips, olives, or small bites. Precisely because the wood gains even more depth in color over time, its appearance only becomes more beautiful.

Double-sided use
The board can be used on both sides. The side with a juice groove is ideal for ingredients that release moisture, such as tomatoes or a juicy piece of meat. The flat side is handy for bread, vegetables, or fresh herbs. This way, you always have a suitable side for different cutting tasks.

Responsible and ready to use
The North American cherry wood is 100% FSC-certified and comes from responsibly managed forests. The board has been treated with mineral oil, making it food-safe and immediately ready for use. By re-oiling the board every four to six weeks, the wood remains beautiful, strong, and well-protected.

Frequently asked questions

  • Can this board go in the dishwasher?

No. Hot steam and prolonged soaking are fatal for wood: this board can warp or crack. Rinse with warm water and a drop of dish soap, dry it, and let it dry upright. Done in a minute.

  • What kind of wood is it and why?

Cherry, solid and 100% FSC-certified, Janka hardness 950 lbf. Cherry is slightly softer than maple, so gentler on your knife. And it gets more beautiful with the years: the reddish-brown color deepens into its own patina.

  • Is long grain good for my knives?

Yes. Wood is forgiving where glass, stone, and hard plastic will mercilessly dull your cutting edge. Plain-sawn wood shows slightly more cut marks over time than quarter-sawn wood, but is lighter, easier to handle, and requires less maintenance.

  • How often should I oil this board?

Every four to six weeks, or as soon as the wood looks dry or dull. Apply a generous layer of mineral oil, leave it to soak in overnight and buff away the excess. Want to add an extra layer of protection: a thin coat of beeswax will make the surface water-repellent.

  • Can I use this board immediately?

Yes. This board is finished with mineral oil and beeswax and made with formaldehyde-free glue. Out of the box, onto the counter, start cutting.

  • Is a wooden cutting board hygienic, even for raw meat?

Yes, provided you clean it after use and let it dry thoroughly. A bonus: wood does not release microplastics, unlike a scratched plastic cutting board. Do you often cut raw meat and vegetables together? Use a separate side or a second cutting board.

  • What is the sapgeul used for?

The groove along the edge catches meat juices, tomato juice and lemon juice. This keeps your counter dry when you carve the rib-eye. The other side is flat: ideal for serving.

  • Can I use both sides?

Yes, this board is double-sided. Turn it regularly so that the wood wears evenly and the board remains flat.

  • How can I prevent my cutting board from warping or cracking?

Three rules: never let it soak, let it dry upright so both sides get air, and oil it in time. Do not place it near the heater or in direct sunlight. Wood that isn't thirsty won't warp.

  • Can I also serve it on it?

Absolutely. Cheese, charcuterie, freshly baked bread: this board looks just as good on the table as it does on the kitchen counter. The handles on the side make it easy to carry.

  • How much warranty do I get?

2 years for defects in materials and workmanship.
