Downdraft extractor system
Before delving into DUCQ's pans, let's first explore what downdraft extractor systems are. The downdraft extractor system is a revolutionary technology specifically designed to effectively remove fumes, odours, and grease during cooking.
The system draws polluted air downwards, directly from the hob, and ducts it to a ventilation channel under the floor or to the outside via an external exhaust. The air passes through multiple filters to remove grease and odour particles before being recirculated into the kitchen or expelled outwards.

Advantages of downdraft extractor systems
Unlike traditional extractor hoods located above the stove, downdraft pans are integrated into the cooking surface itself. This not only offers an aesthetic advantage but also frees up space above the stove, giving your kitchen a more spacious feel.
A Bora or other downdraft extractor system is easy to clean. The protective cover can be easily removed and cleaned. The filter is easy to replace, and you won't have dirty greasy edges and surfaces like with an extractor hood.
Disadvantages of downdraft extractor systems
As you know, vapours and odours rise. They want to go upwards! This also means that the extraction in an extractor hood does not need to be as strong as the extraction in a downdraft extractor system. What does that mean for you? Noise! A downdraft extractor system has to work much harder to remove vapours and odours than an extractor hood. So, when cooking, you will hear much more noise from a downdraft extractor system than from an extractor hood.
Are you a messy cook? Then such a downdraft extractor system has a second disadvantage. Your food scraps and splatters end up on or in the extractor filter. We find it annoying to constantly have to remove the filter cover to pick out pieces of chicken and peas.
Downdraft pans by DUCQ
The Dutch company DUCQ has carefully considered developments in extraction technology. They have developed a special line of pans for downdraft extractor systems. Or rather, special lids.
With traditional lids, the steam vent is located at the top, which makes sense because condensation is also extracted upwards. But when the extraction is integrated into the hob, as with Bora hobs, that is not the right place. That's why DUCQ has developed a unique lid that allows extraction from the side. The special lids have a silicone ring that keeps the lid in place during cooking and ensures that the vapours in the pan are extracted through a cutout on the side. An additional advantage of this is that pouring is also made easier thanks to this cutout.

The pans themselves consist of three layers: induction steel on the outside, stainless steel on the inside, and an aluminum interlayer. These layers not only ensure good heat distribution but also make the pan comfortable to hold without being too heavy. A salient detail; for extra cooking convenience, there is a clear measuring scale on the matte stainless steel interior.
Do you have a downdraft extractor system and are you looking for a great set of pans? Then consider the 4-piece pan set or 6-piece pan set from DUCQ.
