Candl's TPU cutting mat is an antibacterial, flexible cutting board that is virtually scratch-free. The boards provide optimal grip, making cutting easier, safer, and quieter.
Furthermore, the material is so robust that no grooves form, preventing bacteria from developing. Your knives also dull less quickly. Finally, with Candl boards, you don't have to worry about the absorption of juices and odors.
What are the differences with regular plastic cutting boards?
Elasticity and resilience
TPU is elastic and resilient: the board yields slightly when cutting, which means cuts are cushioned. This results in fewer scratches and less knife wear, and your knives stay sharper for longer. A regular plastic board is much stiffer and more easily leaves deep grooves, which promotes knife wear and bacterial growth.
Water- & odor-resistance
TPU is non-porous, does not absorb odors or colors, and absorbs less moisture. This makes these boards extra hygienic and quick-drying. Plastic boards can take on odors or colors over time, especially with stain-prone ingredients.
Hygiene & cleaning
CandL TPU cutting boards are HACCP-compliant, resistant to hot cleaning such as boiling in water up to approximately 100–150 °C, and are dishwasher-safe. With conventional plastic, the heat in dishwashers can cause warping or make wear marks visible.
Durability & wear resistance
TPU is approximately 3 to 5 times as durable as PE or PP plastic in terms of wear, with much higher cutting resistance. Plastic cutting boards show deep scratches and wear more quickly. Plastic boards are harder, which causes more wear on your knife. CandL claims 3 to 5 times longer sharpness vs typical PP/PE.
