View all Opinel productsThe N°09 is one of the first knives Joseph Opinel designed in 1896. Like the rest of the Tradition range, this excellent design has stood the test of time. The reliable and solid 9 cm stainless steel blade ensures high-quality cutting and high resistance to corrosion. The beechwood used for the handle guarantees sturdiness and comfort. Handy for all types of use and suitable for all DIY enthusiasts.
The stainless steel used for the Opinel blade is of optimized quality to guarantee both high corrosion resistance and high mechanical performance. The blade has an excellent cutting edge and high resistance to wear, keeping it sharp for a long time. It is resistant to regular contact with hard materials such as ceramics. Stainless steel has the advantage of being maintenance-free under normal use, unlike carbon steel. However, it can reach its limits when in prolonged contact with an aggressive environment (acid, salt water, detergent, etc.). We therefore also recommend washing by hand.
Yatagan shape
The traditional Opinel scimitar, or Yatagan. Its shape is inspired by a Turkish sword with an upward-curving tip. The blade is ground in an exclusive convex profile, which ensures a strong blade and allows for easy and efficient resharpening.
French beechwood handle
Beechwood is typically used for manufacturing Opinel handles. It comes from French operations, is sustainable, and easy to work with. It has a homogeneous appearance and its bright color varies from yellow to pink. It is recognizable by the presence of numerous small dark streaks. The handle is treated with varnish to protect it from moisture and dirt.
Virobloc safety ring
The Virobloc safety ring was invented by Marcel Opinel in 1955, and all locking knives from N°06 onwards are equipped with it. Made of stainless steel, the Virobloc consists of two parts: a fixed part and a sliding part. In addition to locking the blade in the open position (safety in use), it is also possible to lock the blade in the closed position (safety during transport).
