View all Opinel productsThe N°07, invented by Joseph Opinel almost 130 years ago, has remained a symbol of the brand ever since. It is ideal for camping and picnics, but also for everyday use. The 8 cm stainless steel blade ensures excellent cutting quality and offers great resistance to corrosion. The lacquered beech wood handle provides a secure and pleasant grip. The safety ring allows the blade to be locked in the open or closed position.
The stainless steel used for the Opinel blade is of optimized quality to ensure both high corrosion resistance and high mechanical performance. The blade has an excellent cutting edge and high wear resistance, keeping it sharp for a long time. It is resistant to regular contact with hard materials such as ceramics. Stainless steel has the advantage of being maintenance-free under normal use, unlike carbon steel. However, it can reach its limits when in prolonged contact with an aggressive environment (acid, salt water, detergent, etc.). Therefore, we also recommend washing by hand.
Yatagan shape
The traditional Opinel scimitar, or Yatagan. The shape is inspired by a Turkish sword with an upturned tip. The blade is ground in an exclusive convex profile, which ensures a strong blade and allows for easy and efficient resharpening.
French beech wood handle
Beech wood is mostly used for the manufacture of Opinel handles. It comes from French exploitations, is durable and easy to work with. It has a homogeneous appearance and its bright color varies from yellow to pink. It is recognizable by the presence of numerous small dark streaks. The handle is treated with varnish to protect it from moisture and dirt.
Virobloc safety ring
The Virobloc safety ring was invented by Marcel Opinel in 1955 and all locking knives from N°06 onwards are fitted with it. The Virobloc is made of stainless steel and consists of two parts: a fixed part and a sliding part. In addition to locking the blade in the open position (safety in use), it is also possible to lock the blade in the closed position (safety during transport).
