View all Opinel productsThis knife has been around for almost 130 years, making it a classic among classics. The N°08 is the most popular in the collection. Here we present a variant with an Alpine Belt sheath as an extra. It is a very versatile pocket knife and an indispensable tool in daily life. It features a stainless steel blade. The varnished beechwood handle provides a secure and comfortable grip. You can safely store it in the belt sheath.
The stainless steel used for the Opinel blade is of optimized quality to guarantee both high corrosion resistance and high mechanical performance. The blade has an excellent cutting edge and high wear resistance, keeping it sharp for a long time. It is resistant to regular contact with hard materials such as ceramics. Stainless steel has the advantage of being maintenance-free with normal use, unlike carbon steel. However, it can reach its limits when in prolonged contact with an aggressive environment (acid, salt water, detergent, etc.). Therefore, we also recommend washing by hand.
Yatagan shape
The traditional Opinel scimitar, or Yatagan. Its shape is inspired by a Turkish sword with an upward-curving tip. The blade is ground with an exclusive convex profile, which guarantees a strong blade and allows for easy and efficient resharpening.
French beechwood handle
Beechwood is typically used for Opinel knife handles. It comes from French sustainable forestry and is easy to work with. It has a uniform appearance, and its bright color varies from yellow to pink. It is recognizable by the presence of numerous small dark streaks. The handle is treated with varnish to protect it from moisture and dirt.
Virobloc safety ring
The Virobloc safety ring was invented by Marcel Opinel in 1955, and all closing knives from N°06 upwards are fitted with it. Made of stainless steel, the Virobloc consists of two parts: a fixed part and a sliding part. In addition to locking the blade in the open position (safety during use), it also allows the blade to be locked in the closed position (safety during transport).
