Let's get started!

  1. Pour the wine into a large saucepan. Heat the pan over low heat.
  2. Slice the oranges and lemon and add them to the red wine.
  3. Add the cinnamon sticks, cloves, star anise, and cayenne pepper. For a sweeter taste, add 2 to 3 tablespoons of sugar.
  4. Heat this for 30 to 45 minutes. Do not bring the wine to a boil, as this will evaporate the alcohol, and mulled wine without alcohol is like an egg without salt.
  5. After heating the mulled wine, remove the cloves. Not with your bare hands, of course. Use a spoon or tongs.
  6. Serve the mulled wine to your guests. Cheers!
