Everything you need to know about Global knives 🔪

Is it time for a new adventure in your kitchen? With Global knives, you'll have the right tools to take your cooking skills to the next level. In this article, you'll learn more about the history of Global knives, the advantages of a Global knife, and the different series available.

Where do Global knives come from?

What immediately stands out about Global knives is their unique design. The knife appears to be made from a single piece of metal, is razor-sharp, and has dimples in the handle. It's an assumption, but we believe there is no knife as recognizable as Global knives. The original design of Global knives comes from the Japanese designer Komin Yamada. The Yoshikin factory registered the design in 1985. This original design can still be seen in the Museum of Modern Art, which proves that Yamada was far ahead of his time with his design.

The advantages of Global knives

Global knives are made from patented and super-hard Cromova 18 steel. No other knife maker in the world is allowed to use this steel. The combination of the design and this type of steel makes a Global knife unique. What stands out most about Global knives are the dimples in the handle. These dimples provide more than average grip when cutting, even with wet hands. Another advantage is that the handle of Global knives is filled with sand. The sand is carefully measured, ensuring that a Global knife lies perfectly balanced in your hand.

More about Cromova 18 steel

This unique steel has a fine grain structure, which allows the knife to be sharpened very keenly. Cromova-18 steel has a hardness of 58 Rockwell, which has the great advantage of making the knife easy to resharpen. It's good to know that Global knives are convex ground. This means that the edge of the blade is not ground in a V-shape, but in a more rounded U-shape. A convex ground knife has a stronger edge and can still cut somewhat more smoothly. The disadvantage of a convex grind is that it is an extremely precise job. You can certainly sharpen your knife yourself, but then you will probably grind it more into a V-shape.

Global series at a glance

The Global series at braadbaas consist of the G-series, the GS-series, and the GSF-series. We also offer accessories, such as knife blocks, knife protectors, and a knife magnet.

Global G-series

Who doesn't know the G-series from Global? This is the basic series, in which all types of Global knives are available. It all started for Global with the G-series in 1985. This 'classic' series was far ahead of its time and is still one of the most popular series when it comes to kitchen knives. Within the G-series, you have the most choice for expansion. The G2 Chef's knife and the G9 bread knife are popular knives from the G-series.

Global GS-series

The GS-series consists of many knives also found in Global's G-series. In terms of offerings, it is very similar. The big difference between the G-series and the GS-series is that the GS-series has a slightly more ergonomic handle. The handle tapers towards its end. This design ensures a greater distance between the cutting board and your hand. Our favorite from the GS-series is the GS5 paring knife.

Global GSF-series

Within Global's GSF-series, you'll mainly find smaller kitchen knives, such as the GSF15 paring knife and the GSF22 utility knife. This series is perfect for smaller cutting tasks. This series also features dimples in the handle for maximum grip.

How to care for your Global knives?

Global knives are easy to keep clean because the entire knife is made of stainless steel. The handle and blade seamlessly merge, so dirt cannot get stuck anywhere. Do make sure to clean the dimples of the handle thoroughly. We strongly advise against putting Global knives in the dishwasher (just like your other kitchen knives). In the dishwasher, your knife can come into contact with flying kitchen utensils, which can cause scratches or dents. You also want to avoid the chemicals from the detergent. Therefore, hand wash your Global knives with lukewarm water and a sponge or soft brush.
